‘Darling Ranges’ by Megan Nielsen |A Pattern Review
I first came across this pattern at the very beginning of my sewing journey and I remember thinking to myself how much I’d love to be able to make a dress like this. I love a shirt dress and I loved the look of the denim chambray version on the front of the pattern so I made it my mission to improve my skills enough that I could make my own version. Here’s a look at the pattern. The cover has actually had a bit of an update since I bought mine – the most recent copy is the one on the left but I’ve included a photo of the…

Like a lot of us, even though we’re still in lockdown here in the UK, the nicer weather has got me thinking about all of the lovely summer makes I want to sew. Yes, even though I’m spending most of my time at home in comfy loungewear I still need lots of pretty dresses ok husband!! 😉 Here’s a little round up of summer inspiration I’ve collected over the last few weeks. I’ve linked to anything I mention so if you want to take a closer look just click on any of the links or pictures and it should take you directly to the item. The Floral Midi Dress I…

Pivoine Blouse Review – Delphine & Morissette
I made this blouse back last summer 2019 and, after posting pictures of it on Instagram, I had so many lovely comments, messages and questions about the making process that I kept saying that I would write a blog post on the pattern and I am just getting around to it now in May 2020!! Lockdown does have some advantages, it’s giving me time to write up a lot of my makes and it’s lovely to get them done and remember what I loved about them. So, anyway, I had seen so many beautiful versions of this pattern around and fell in love with it. I absolutely love French style,…

DIBY Club Emmeline Gathered Dress Pattern Review
It was so lovely of the DIBY Club to get in touch with me and ask if I would like to sample and review one of their patterns. I’d not heard of the brand before but a quick look over their website and I knew they would be right up my street. The DIBY (Do It Better Yourself) Club aims to teach you to make your clothes better than you can buy them with a focus on getting the perfect fit for your individual body size and shape. THE PATTERN I was asked to review the Emmeline Dress, a fit and flare jersey dress with a variety of sleeve and…

Sew Over It Ava Skirt Pattern and Fabric Review with The Fabric Guys
THE PATTERN I have wanted to make a Sew Over It Ava Skirt for ages and when I saw this super pretty needlecord on the Fabric Guys website I knew it would be perfect for this pattern. I have a similar ready to wear skirt in corduroy and it’s just perfect for the autumn and winter months. I chose to make the mini version of this skirt without the pockets. Leaving out pockets was not a decision I took lightly because we all love a pocket don’t we but I didn’t want the inseam pockets to interfere with the silhouette of the skirt in this fabric. I made a size…

Sew Over It Ultimate Shift Dress Review
Pattern: Sew Over It – Ultimate Shift Dress Fabric: Lightweight Rayon Challis – Bold Flowers & Stripes from 1st for Fabric I ordered 2.5 metres of this beautiful lightweight rayon challis from 1st for Fabrics because I absolutely love both stripes and florals at the moment and this fabric combined the two perfectly. The fabric arrived beautifully wrapped with a note from Julie which added a lovely personal touch. At the time of ordering I wasn’t exactly sure what I was going to make from the fabric but I knew I wanted to make a dress from it and that 2.5 metres should easily cover that. I deliberated for a…

True Bias Ogden Cami – A Review….
If you’re a sewer you’ll know that there have been dozens and dozens of these tops all over sewing social media in all the beautiful fabrics so after lusting over about 600 of them on Instagram I decided it was time I gave this pattern a try. I downloaded the PDF file direct from the True Bias website for $10.00, it winged it’s way into my Inbox and I printed it straight out. Given that there are only five pattern pieces in total to print, this pattern was very quick to put together using the cut and stick method and very quick to cut from the fabric too as the…

My dressmaking story…
As well as making beautiful handmade things for my lovely customer’s homes as part of my business, in my spare time I also love to sew clothes for myself and my children. I have always wanted to make my own clothes. When I was a child of around ten I learned to knit and I would spend lots of my time knitting soft toys and gifts and then eventually, as I got older and more experienced, progressing to jumpers and cardigans which I could wear myself. As I got older I became more interested in sewing, my Mum, Nan and Grandma all knew how to sew so I had lots of…
