Minerva Blogger Network – Tilly & the Buttons Indigo Ruffle Hack

I don’t think I could love a pattern more than the Indigo at the moment! That’s not to say I was sold straight away though, when I initially saw the pattern release I thought it was lovely but I didn’t think the smock style would suit me as I’m quite petite. However, after stalking the hashtag on Instagram and seeing all of the other lovely versions out there I decided to go for it and make my own and I’m so glad I did. My first version I made without the flounce sleeves or the pockets in a beautiful mustard peachskin from Material Girl Laura. Ruffle dresses have been all over the high street this autumn haven’t they and after falling in love with one online that was a very similar style to the Indigo I decided to make my own using the pattern as a base. I cut the sleeves and skirt a little shorter and used what excess fabric I had to draft a ruffle (read cut a rectangle) for the bottom.

For this version I used a beautiful viscose twill fabric kindly gifted from Minerva crafts, which can be purchased here, in return for my full review and blog post which will be up on their site soon. In the meantime here’s a quick summary.

Pattern: Tilly & the Buttons Indigo Dress

Fabric: Super soft and drapey viscose twill from Minerva

Size: I made a size 2

Time to make: 2.5 hours to make the standard version this one took me a little longer with the added ruffle.

Difficulty: Confident beginner – though the exposed frills might prove a little tricky.

Changes made: Bodice shortened by 1″, sleeves shortened to elbow length, skirt shortened, ruffle added

Would I make it again: Oh yes, most definitely!
